New Season, new school year

It's hard to believe that the summer is over and the new season and new school year have started. I'm welcoming some new students (always exciting to meet young musicians) as well as continuing working with returning ones.

Jacob Sherman, in the photo, worked hard during the summer, too, and at the end of LRMC's summer semester he finished Suzuki Violin School book 1. Congratulations, Jacob! He had been way into book 2 but we had saved the last piece of book 1 until the summer. He looked very happy as he finished playing the last piece of book 1 -- I can tell he knew he played well. It's important to be able to tell when you play well and not well. And the sense of satisfaction and accomplishment is part of music lessons. You learn that your hard work and effort get rewarded.

My season opening concert is coming up on September 22, performing Schubert's Octet. Part of the group performed two movements of it at a prison in July but this time we are playing the whole piece.

I've been working on my part and studying the score and I can't wait to start rehearsing with my colleagues on the 14th. I'm also excited to have an open rehearsal at Atria Rye Brook on the 19th -- it's going to be my first time holding an open rehearsal! Both events are free of admission fee. Please come!
