Orchestra season is starting up, too, and I'm playing with the Ridgefield Symphony Orchestra this week. RSO's season opening concert "FRAUTSCHI PLAYS PROKOFIEV" is this Saturday, September 28 at 8pm. Our soloist, Jennifer Frautschi is an amazing violinist and we are very excited to perform with her.
The first piece on the program is Dances of Galanta by Zoltan Kodaly. I had never even heard of it until this gig came, but here's a YouTube video in which musicians play gypsy instruments. As our maestro, Gerald Steichen says, "Find your inner gypsy" with this piece. Enjoy!

Kodaly was a Hungarian composer and ethnomusicologist (among other things). He and Bela Bartok went around Hungary to collect folk tunes. They would go to a village and invite locals to a bar, make them drunk and then have them sing and dance while they wrote down the melodies.
The two other pieces on the program (Prokofiev Violin Concerto No.2 and Beethoven's Symphony 7) are more often played. I can't remember how many times I have played the Beethoven. It's my personal "most frequently played" piece for sure. Here is my favorite Beethoven 7 with Carlos Kleiber.
