Congratulations, Chiyo, on your first book completion! She finished ABC's of Violin Book 1 on May 23.
Chiyo is one of my youngest students (she is five) but it only took her 9 months to finish the whole book (not to mention that she was four when she started working on it)! Every week she challenges herself to learn multiple pieces. The amount of homework is more than what I usually give to older students but she covers them all. Her mother has been a big help -- she is also an accomplished violinist.
Her most favorite piece from this book is "Home On the Range". We worked hard on its rhythm so when she told me that it was her favorite, it surprised me a bit. But I understand how the working process made the whole experience more meaningful for her.
She will make her first appearance at Atria Rye Brook on June 7, performing J.S. Bach's Minuet No.3.
