Student Achievements -- 3 Book Completions in a Week!

It has been a great teaching week! Stamford Young Artists Philharmonic finally had a rehearsal after about 6 weeks of rehearsal cancellations (due to snow and holidays). They tackled the repertoire with a lot of energy and learned a lot in such a short time. The concert is on March 8!

Now onto book completions -- in a week I had three students finish their method books. Congrats to all of them!

Tentaro Sato finished "Solos for Young Violinists" book 1 by Barber on Feb 20.

From this book Tentaro performed "Concertino in G Major" by Huber at Atria Rye Brook in June. We were going back and forth between this book and Suzuki Book 4 while learning shifting and vibrato. He didn't have to work on all the pieces of this book as we found no challenges. Now he is back to Suzuki book 4, Vivaldi's famous Violin Concerto in A minor (and he's learning it really fast). Keep up your good work!

On Feb 25, Rachel Akinla finished Suzuki Book 3 with a record; never in the 15+ years of my teaching experience, a student finished this book in half a year. I have to mention that she only skipped one piece from this book AND in December she performed a piece from a different book.  Rachel performed "Gavotte" by Martini (the first piece of Suzuki book 3) at A Day of Music event in September, contributing to fund raising for Ang Misyon, an El Sistema orchestra in the Philippines.  I was especially amazed with her "Gavotte in D Major" by J.S.Bach -- I had her play it for my next student who was waiting for his lesson. Rachel is going to start learning vibrato next week! How exciting :-)

On Feb 26, Jacob Sherman finished the ABC's of the Violin book 2. I'm sorry I didn't have a chance to take his photo... :-( The ABC's book 2 is a long journey but he tackled each piece very carefully and nailed down accidentals. With that training he performed "Star Wars Themes" duet in December with a great success. In fact I had thought that would be too challenging but Jacob quickly mastered sections of accidental marathon. Congrats, Jacob!
